NEW CERTIFICATE

Graduate Green Belt Certificate in Quality

The primary goal of the Graduate Green Belt Certificate in Quality is to give practitioners, with a bachelor's degree and at least two years of work experience in the quality field, the opportunity to learn the methods of analysis that result in organizations achieving what is called "Six Sigma Quality." The focus is on presenting the analytical tools and methods that will permit the professional to analyze, assess, and improve processes within his or her organization.

Graduate Green Belt Certificate Program of Study

  • QA 6602 Total Quality
  • QA 6610 Statistics for Quality Assurance
  • QA 6611 Advanced Statistical Applications
  • QA 6650 Quality System Design

  • For those entering students with little mathematical background, we also offer QA5000, an on-line prep class that reviews math and basic statistical concepts, and introduces analysis using Excel and Minitab. This class prepares students to succeed in the graduate-level statistics sequence.

  • In addition, students will take a final Green Belt Certification test administered by the QA program coordinator after all required Certificate course work has been completed. Students passing the Green Belt exam will earn a Green Belt Certificate in Quality from SPSU's Industrial Engineering Technology Department, the MSQA home department. Those who do not pass may retake the test the next semester.

    Admissions requirements

The Graduate Green Belt Certificate in Quality is open only to students with a bachelor's degree and two years of work experience in the quality field. Students will be admitted in a special status. Coursework completed in the certificate program will be entered on the student's official transcript as regular academic coursework counting for graduate credit. Admission in the Certificate program does not necessarily qualify students for full admission to the MSQA program. However, the four courses required for the Certificate are also required for the MS program.

Students wishing to apply to the Graduate Green Belt Certificate program must complete an application, submit college transcripts and prepare a Statement of Purpose. Unlike the MSQA program, no letters of recommendation are required for Certificate admission. However, these letters will be necessary if a certificate student decides to apply to the full master's degree program in the future.
